Old: (2) 4 minute flights – 1 with known maneuvers and 1 without, (both were choreographed to music)

New: (3) 3 minute flights consisting of the following:
1) Known maneuvers – without music
2) Freestyle – Choreographed with music
3) Smack – Pilots flight to impress the judges. (Can be flown with or without music.

This should give more flexibility to the competitors, and the winner will be the person who can execute all 3 flights the best!

XFC Airplane Known Maneuvers
2015
Must be performed in a 3 minute flight window

Horizontal Knife Edge 8
Starting upright/level from either left or right, the model rolls to Knife Edge. The model executes a 90 degree KE turn away from the judges and centered directly in front. The model executes a 180 degree roll (pilot’s option on direction) and continues to push outside. It then performs a 360 degree circle in Knife Edge flight, finishing in knife edge away from the judges. The model then executes another 180 degree roll to knife edge and pushes outside in a 270 degree circle. When the model passes the initial entry point, it performs a ¼ roll back to upright. When the wings are level the maneuver is completed.
Key Points:
Constant altitude must be maintained
The horizontal circles must be the same diameter and radius
The center of the circles must be directly in front of the judges
The 180 degree rolls must be consistent (speed) and must match the radius of the circles
4 Point Torque Roll
The model enters from left or right, and parallel to the runway in front of the judges. The model then executes a one (1) turn torque roll stopping the model every 90 degrees from the starting position/heading for a minimum of 2 seconds at each point. The model then exits the Torque Roll on the same heading as entry.
Key Points:
Altitude during the entire maneuver must be the same
Rotation speed between the points must be the same
Consistent timing through all the points
Alternating Four Point Roll
From either direction parallel to the flight line, the model executes a quarter roll followed by a half roll in the opposite direction. The model then executes a second quarter roll followed by another half roll in the opposite direction. The model then executes the third quarter roll, followed by a half roll in the opposite direction, and so on through point #4 until the model ends up in level flight.
Key Points:
¼ Rolls must be the same direction and ½ rolls must be the same direction
Altitude must remain the same throughout
Points must be 90 degrees and 180 degrees
Positioning between the points must be the same
Roll Rates must be constant
Entire maneuver must be centered in front of the judges
Dead Stick Spot Landing
The model must execute a spot landing on the centerline in front of the judges while the engine is off.
Key Points:
Engine must be stopped before turning onto final
The model must land as close to the landing zone line for best score.

XFC Airplane Known Maneuvers 2016

The Alpha Ratchet –

The aircraft enters upright from the left or the right and parallel to the flight line. It then executes (4) consecutive 4-point rolls in opposite directions. These are done in a high alpha attitude, and exit upright. The optimum altitude for scoring is at 10’ above the ground. The placing between roll #2 and #3 should be directly in front of the judges. Entry roll direction to this maneuver can be left or right.
Downgrades:

Altitude deviations
Roll rate changes throughout the maneuver
Not centered in front of the judges
Points not noticeable
Hesitation changes between each point

Torq’in Top Hat –

The aircraft enters inverted from the left or right and parallel to the flight line. The aircraft then pushes to vertical. On the vertical up line, the aircraft stops and executes (1) torque roll. This is centered on this up line. The aircraft then climbs, so that spacing is the same above and below the torque roll. The aircraft then pulls to an inverted level harrier across the top, and then pushes/stops in a vertical position. The aircraft then descends on a vertical line, and executes a torque roll at the same height as the first. The aircraft then descends from the torque roll to the altitude as entry to the maneuver. The aircraft then pulls to inverted, and flies out.
Downgrades:

Entry and exit altitudes are different
Torque rolls are not at the same altitude
Spacing above and below the Torque Rolls are different
Over-rotation in the torque roll
Vertical lines above and below the TR’s are not straight.
Deviation in altitude across the top

The HammerFall –

The aircraft enters upright from either left or right. At center in front of the judges, the model pulls to vertical. On the vertical up line, the model executes (1) negative (push) waterfall and stops with the nose in the up/vertical position. Upon completion of the waterfall, the model continues the climb vertically and executes a hammerhead turn at the top. On the down line it performs 2 of a 4 point roll (either direction), followed by an opposite negative snap roll in the opposite direction. Then the aircraft pulls to level and exits on the same heading as the entry.
Downgrades:

Vertical lines not the same
Spacing before and after the waterfall not the same
Heading changes during the waterfall
Hammerhead must be stalled, not flown over
Entry and exit radius’s at the bottom are not the same
Wings must be level during the waterfall
